Letter from Mr. Hamilton
As we begin our Lenten journey we celebrate saying goodbye to our old selves in order to make room for the new person fashioned in Christ. On Ash Wednesday we are reminded that we need to commit to doing what’s right, to go forth and help others, not just during the next 40 days, but always. And the Bible tells us, “Even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping and mourning; rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the Lord, your God” Joel 2:12-18. When we reflect on these examples of commitment, one can see that when we promise to do something or give up something it involves a journey, but it also involves taking action on that journey. This is spelled out in our school mission statement:
“St. Gabriel Catholic Parish School is committed to cultivating a responsible and respectful Catholic identity in the name of Jesus. Our faith journey includes strong academics, discipleship of Christ in our communities, and a growing relationship with God advanced through the sacraments. We seek to build a parish community which has “many parts one body,” rooted in the values of the Gospel.”
When we declare this mission, God is counting on us to actively participate in a journey that brings us closer to Him. Remember WWJD? What would Jesus do? He wants us to take that next step and say goodbye to our old ways, commit to doing what’s right, and return to the Lord.
May the good Lord bless you and keep you on your journey. May His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
